Large cities that have high population densities would do well with buses and public service vehicles as a major mode of commuter transport. Public service vehicles for hire like taxis and private service vehicles also for hire such as hackneys are better alternatives to cars and other exclusive means of commuting. The buses carry far more people than automobiles and therefore reduce pollution and traffic congestion. The drawbacks with public buses is the inconvenience of awaiting at bus stops for the next bus to arrive if you arrive late at the stop. However, buses are the cheapest modes of public transport compared to light trains or taxis.
